About Intervals.icu
A powerful, free training platform built by an athlete who wanted something better.
The Origin Story
Intervals.icu started in mid-2018 as a side project by David Tinker, a software developer and cyclist based in Cape Town. What began as an experiment to try out a new programming framework while learning about road bike training quickly grew into something much bigger.
Originally built as an analysis extension for Strava, the platform soon took on a life of its own. Athletes discovered it offered deep, powerful analytics that rivalled expensive paid platforms. Word spread through cycling and triathlon communities, and the user base grew organically.
By 2024, Intervals.icu had grown to over 100,000 athletes who had collectively analyzed over 111 million activities. David went full-time on Intervals.icu in September 2024.
