**Come Experience riding the Blue Ridge Parkway … **

The YMCA of Central Virginia invites you to join friends and fellow cyclists for the 16th annual Storming of Thunder Ridge ride, taking place in the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia on Sunday, May 18th. By registering, you’ll help support the YMCA’s Community Support Campaign, which funds vital programs for those in need throughout the community.

This scenic, well-supported cycling event has something for riders of all abilities, with route options of 27, 45, 48, 75, and 100 miles. Ride at your own pace on well-marked country roads, choosing the distance that suits you, all while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow cyclists.

The roads are open to traffic, and all Virginia traffic laws must be followed at all times for your safety and the safety of others. Above all, our top priority is that everyone returns home safely to their loved ones, so please, use your best judgment and ride responsibly.

The 27 and 45-mile routes feature rolling hills and picturesque backroads. For the sixth year, we’re offering the Mountain LOOP route (48 miles), where riders drive to Big Island to start and finish, tackling a stunning loop that includes Thunder Ridge and Curtis Mountain (note: all post-ride activities are at the Jamerson YMCA). The 75 and 100-mile routes are designed for those seeking a challenge, with the 100-mile route offering over 9,000 feet of climbing, including a grueling 13-mile ascent to Apple Orchard Mountain, the highest peak on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.

Riders will benefit from fully stocked rest stops, SAG support, cue sheets, and course monitoring. After crossing the finish line, unwind and recharge with access to the YMCA’s showers, hot tub, family pool, and a tasty food and beer celebration to mark the end of your ride.

Camping options are available for Saturday night, May 17th (and Sunday night for outdoor camping).

Don’t wait to register! Early registration rates end January 1st and May 1st, and the event has a rider limit of 800 cyclists on the Blue Ridge Parkway—so secure your spot soon!
