Wells Ave Crit is a training race and meeting point for the greater Boston bike racing community. First run in 1981 by the Boston Road Club, Wells Ave is currently hosted by New England Development. All proceeds support junior racers and are greatly appreciated. Our goal is to provide a place to learn and improve your racing skills, both in practice and from the experience of the community. As a funding source for junior development, we keep the frills and costs to a minimum. We attempt to capture results to at least 21th place in any field, to provide as many USAC upgrade points in the A and B fields as feasible.
New England Development p/b Cadence Wealth Management is proud to partner with Wheelworks and Teddy Peanut Butter again for the 2024 season.
All A categories will race as one field for separate podiums. The same for the B and C races. Separate results/podiums will be awarded for categories with 6 or more entrants. As always, the C race is intended for beginners, does not provide upgrade points and is limited to Novice riders. It you are capable of riding the B race, then the C is not for you. Similarly the B race is not a warmup for the A race. Tired riders in the A race is not a good situation. Please pick one or the other. Rights reserved to consolidate or eliminate fields where minimum field size is too low to be competitive.
Automobile Traffic:The volume of traffic coming to Wells Ave. on Sunday mornings has increased over the past few years. Businesses are familiar with our event since it has been there longer than any of the tenants! As with any bicycle race, especially a training event, your safety is paramount. We have a staff of marshals to keep traffic flowing in the proper direction. You are still required to pay attention, be courteous, and keep your eyes peeled for cars on the course. If one should appear in front of the field the field is neutralized until the car exits the course. DO NOT PASS THE CARS, we do not care if there is a break up the road. If there is a car on the straight during a prime or finishing sprint, the sprint will be neutralized and the prize will be delayed one lap.
**Conduct:**Poor sportsmanship, foul language, unsafe riding or violence WILL NOT be tolerated at Wells at all. The Chief Official has the right to remove a rider from a race or Wells Ave. that he/she feels demonstrates any of these conditions. Any rider that is removed from Wells Ave. will be reported to the USA Cycling Regional Director.
All USA Cycling rules apply, including use of approved helmets, jerseys with shoulders and NO Aerobars are allowed.
