Conquer the Canal Individual and Team Time Trial - VCA BAR and MATT Series Event
The **CCTT is a VCA BAR Event as well as the second race in the Mid-Atlantic TT (MATT) Series. **The event will be held rain or shine. The course is a flat,12 mile out-and-back time trial. Youth riders will race six miles.
**Registration: **Registration will close May 9 at noon. Start times will be emailed that evening. $15 Discount for families; please email the race director. $20 Discount for TTT participants if it is your second race of the day. Riders are responsible for being on time for their start. We recommend to arrive at least one hour before your start time to allow you to get your number and warm-up. Every year a rider misses his start time and asks to have his results adjusted. Don’t be that guy.
Event Parking: 1246 Dismal Swamp Canal Trail, Chesapeake, VA 23322. No warm-up on the course. The best option for warm-up is to bring a stationary trainer. The park will open to all users at 1200.
Awards and Payout: We will have medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers. Cash payout is based on a five-racer minimum per category. If the category has fewer than five racers, the first three finishers will only receive medals. CAT 1-2-3 fields for Men and Women are combined for payout. CAT 5s are permitted to race in their Masters age category for time trails.
**Team Time Trial: **The TTT will be a four or five person Merckx category event. Finishing times will be recorded when the fourth rider of each team crosses the line. Teams may consist of men, women, and juniors, including any mix of Cat 1 through Novice. The TTT will be the final category of the day so it will not hurt individual times or affect BAR or MATT series standings. Riders will get a $20 discount if the TTT is their second race of the day. Teams will pay a 15 second time penalty for each member that does not race the individual TT. If there are families or non-competitive teams that only wish to race the TTT, let the race director know ahead of time and you will not be assessed the time penalty. To register a team, the team captain will enter the team name, rider emails, and make payment. Bikereg will send each team member an invite to complete their personal information. The team captain should email the race director to receive a coupon for the TTT discount; Bikereg does not automatically apply the discount to the TTT category.
**Merckx Category: **This option is available to rugged riders that want to race on the same gear as the “Cannibal,” Eddy Merckx; or any racer that doesn’t want to take out a second mortgage for a TT bike. The Merckx category does not allow aerobars or aero helmets, and the maximum rim depth is 60mm. Aero road helmets such as the Specialized Evade and Giro Vanquish without the shield are permitted. Racers may not rest their forearms on their handlebars. Three additional Merckx categories were added by popular demand.
Youth/Juniors race age 6-14: No TT bikes or aero bars allowed as per USA Cycling. Any parent wishing to follow their young-one on the course must ask the judge first. Last year there were no problems letting parents follow for safety, but it will still be the judge’s call.
**Freedom Bike Works **will provide a professional mechanic onsite for any racer needing a last-minute adjustment to his/her ride.
Results will be instantly available on Webscorer.com. No hard copy results will be posted at the event. We will have podium ceremonies near registration approximately 15 minutes after the arrival of the last rider in each category. Please listen for your name to be called to the podium ceremony. It’s a long parking lot and our megaphone is only so loud.
BAR Winners and VCA Promoters please contact the race director with the category you would like to enter. Entry fees include $5.30 USAC fee and $1.25 VCA BAR fee.
