Positive Cycology Ride

The Positive Cycology Ride is the 3rd annual fundraising bike ride event to support The Art Room in Denton, a nonprofit art studio for people with mental health issues, https://theartroomdenton.org/. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and National Bike Month, and we offer three bike rides to support the positive psychological benefits of both bike riding and art.

The Positive Cycology Ride has three routes this year:

  • an 8 mile, family-friendly, leisure ride. [Please note: children 8-12 ride free, but must be experienced at riding on streets, and accompanied by an adult, at least 21 years old, who will ride next to the child for the entire ride, and will supervise no more than 3 children]

  • a 27 mile experienced ride (minimum average speed 10 mph)

  • a 50 mile ride for the even more experienced rider (minimum average speed 14 mph)

Check-in and day of registration will be at East Side, 117 E. Oak St., Denton, TX 76201, and bathrooms as well as snacks will be provided. All rides start at East Side, and go north and west on a more rural route, toward Krum and Ponder (see maps). All rides end at East Side. For those not familiar with Denton, here’s a link to our site map for the ride, with parking lots marked, https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=19S6SK6qiJqPEO0fRYjyIrR_Ki8skhwQ&usp=sharing; and a map just of downtown Denton parking lots, https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:VA6C2:a4372dc4-cfe3-4841-85f3-9801a11e4692.

There will be an end-of-the ride celebration at East Side Denton, 117 E. Oak St, where we will gather for food (food trucks at your own expense) and drinks (East Side), as well as raffle prizes and fundraising awards.

Early bird registration fee of $40.00 will be available through 4/16/25, and then the fee will be $45.00 from 4/17/25 through 5/16/25. We will have day-of registration for a fee of $50.00.

Those who register before 10:00 pm on 5/11/25 will receive a free Positive Cycology Ride t-shirt, a beverage token for East Side, and one raffle ticket. You can purchase more raffle tickets at the check-in table, to increase your chance of winning some great raffle items, which also will support The Art Room even more! After 10:00 pm on 5/11/25 and for the day-of-registration, riders will receive drink tickets for East Side, and a raffle ticket, but t-shirts are not guaranteed and will be on a first come, first serve basis (please give us your t-shirt size, though!)

Packet pickup will be available before the ride on Thursday, 5/15/25, and Friday 5/16/25 from 5:00-8:00 at East Side, 117 E. Oak St.

The Positive Cycology Ride is not only a really fun cycling event, it is also a FUNdraising event for The Art Room and its mission. Please complete your individual fundraising page on PledgeReg and get your family, friends, and coworkers to support our mission–improving the community’s mental health through creativity–by contributing to your page. You can also create a fundraising team, or join The Art Room’s team and get the benefit of training rides, special t-shirts, and spirited FUNdraising!

Please note that helmets are required and headphones, tagalongs, and carriers are not allowed.
