Race Details
Course/Format: The course is a 1.4 mile loop with 1 corner on the perimeter roadway of the Park. The centerline rule is in effect.
**Final Sprint Point: **Racers may use the full road at the starting point of the sprint on the last lap. The sprint line will be at about the start of the service road just after the entrance at Main. The line will be marked.
**The Turn neutral section: **Racers may advance while maintaining the pace at the start of the neutral section. Racers may not surge forward in the neutral section. The neutral section is between the bridge just prior to the Turn and approximately 50 to 75 feet past the Turn. It is very critical for the safety of the racers to hold your line through the Turn.
Centerline rule: Racers may not advance on the left side of the center line. If safety necessitates crossing the center line by an individual, it is the individual’s responsibility to cross back over the center line on the right side of the road without advancing more than two to three bike lengths. **Results protest: **If you feel you have been scored incorrectly at any time during the series, please use the following form to submit an official protest: https://forms.gle/6RDYmcZ416yP863e9
Vehicle Caravan: Please be mindful when passing the vehicle caravan as there will be drivers entering the course.
**Race start times and distances per race day adjustments: Race start times and distances **may vary depending upon safe racing conditions and the Chief Referee and/or Park Rangers’ discretion. Out-of-contention or non-racing riders may be pulled from the course at the discretion of the Chief Referee.
**Please don’t engage in unsafe riding and please respect the centerline rule: **Centerline violations and dangerous riding will be brought up with the race officials. Two examples of dangerous riding include a strong surge in the Turn neutral section and a fast deviation of your line, or “divebombing” the turn. The first violation will result in relegation, the second in 1 week suspension and loss of up-to-date season points, and the third will result in a season suspension and loss of season points.
Race start times and duration per the schedule:
Open B - 6:00 - 45 minutes
Open C - 6:01 - 30 minutes
Open A - 7:00 - 45 minutes + two laps
C Women - 7:01 - 45 minutes
A/B Women - 7:01 - 45 minutes
Non-Binary Open - 7:01 - 45 minutes
Warmup/Cooldown: All racers are encouraged to bring a trainer and warm up in the parking lot prior to their race. On-course warmup and cooldown will not be allowed from the time the C race has begun staging at the start line.
Change in Category breakdown for initiated in 2024 will continue for 2025: R1V and NCVC are altering the categories for each race for 2024 to promote the “training” aspect of the series and create opportunities to practice and learn. By giving Open Cat 3 and Cat 4 and Cat 4 Women racers an option in which race to participate in, individuals and teams can choose the race appropriate to their fitness and skills to practice mid-race strategies and get experience setting up smart racing tactics. Greenbelt Park Training Series is just that– a training series, and we hope this change will provide more opportunities for participants to advance their race skills.
Prizes: The top 5 cat 1-4, non-binary, male, and female riders for each A and B race will be given points toward an overall series placing. Series points will be awarded and accumulated without regard to the race program. Upon completion of the series, the top 3 non-binary cat 1-4, male, and female riders in both A, B, and non-binary categories will be awarded prizes.
R1V and NCVC would like to express thanks to the Greenbelt Training Race Series sponsors for the Series prizes. The contributing sponsors are Vigilante Coffee Company, College Park Car Wash, Sangfroid Distilling, Newton Engineering and Product Development, and Denizens Brewing Company.
R1V and NCVC would also like to express thanks to the Greenbelt Training Race Series sponsors who have contributed funds to lower the cost for the women’s fields. The contributing sponsors are RJTech and College Park Car Wash
