Conquer the Canal Individual and Team Time Trial 2026
The Conquer The Canal Time Trial is a VCA BAR Event and the inaugural race in the Mid-Atlantic TT (MATT) Series. This event will take place rain or shine.Race Details
Course: A flat, 12-mile out-and-back time trial.
Youth Riders (Ages 6-14): Will compete on a 6-mile course.

Location: 1246 Dismal Swamp Canal Trail, Chesapeake, VA 23322.
Warm-up: No warm-up is permitted on the race course. Bringing a stationary trainer is highly recommended.
Park Hours: The park will open to all users at 12:00 PM.
Awards and Payout
Medals: Awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each category.
Cash Payout:
A minimum of five racers per category is required for a cash payout.
If a category has fewer than five racers, only medals will be awarded to the top three.
Men’s and Women’s CAT 1-2-3 fields are combined for payout purposes.
CAT 5s: Permitted to race in their Masters age category for time trials.
Race CategoriesTeam Time Trial (TTT)
Format: 4 or 5-person Merckx category event.
Timing: The team’s time is recorded when the fourth rider crosses the finish line.
Team Composition: Teams can be a mix of men, women, and juniors, from Pro to Novice.
Scheduling: The TTT is the final event and will not affect individual times or BAR/MATT series standings.
Time Penalties: A 15-second penalty will be applied for each team member who does not also compete in the individual TT.
Exception: Families or non-competitive teams wishing to race only the TTT can have the penalty waived by informing the race director in advance.
Registration: The team captain registers the team, and each member will receive an email invitation from Bikereg to complete their registration. The captain must email the race director for the TTT discount coupon.
Merckx CategoryThis category is for those who want a classic time trial experience.
Equipment Restrictions:
No aerobars or aero helmets.
Maximum rim depth is 60mm.
Aero road helmets (e.g., Specialized Evade, Giro Vanquish without shield) are allowed.
Riding Position: Forearms may not be rested on the handlebars.
Youth/Juniors (Ages 6-14)
Equipment: No TT bikes or aero bars are allowed, as per USA Cycling rules.
Parents on Course: Parents wishing to follow their child for safety must get permission from the judge beforehand.
General Information
Mechanical Support: A professional mechanic from Freedom Bike Works will be available for last-minute adjustments.
Live Results: Results will be available instantly on Webscorer.com. No paper copies will be posted.
Podium Ceremonies: Will take place near the registration area approximately 15 minutes after the last rider in each category finishes. Please listen for your name.
Special Entries: BAR Winners and VCA Promoters should contact the race director to specify their desired entry category.
Fees: Entry fees include a $5.30 USAC fee and a $1.25 VCA BAR fee.
